Our School

At Dimitrova Training Academy, training is rooted in the values of traditional Shito-Ryu karate while supported by modern approaches to athlete development. Students build discipline, confidence, and resilience that extend far beyond the academy—on and off the mat. The habits formed here—focus, commitment, respect, and the ability to perform under pressure—are the same qualities that make great students, teammates, and leaders.

History

Dimitrova Training Academy was founded by Head Instructor Jenna Scott, with a vision to bring authentic traditional karate and high-performance athlete development to Campbell River and Vancouver Island.

Jenna began training at the age of four and has competed at provincial, national, and international levels. She competed as a Canadian National Team kumite athlete in the 2025—2026 season, bringing elite-level experience directly into her coaching. With over 16 years of experience and extensive NCCP coaching education, Jenna has developed athletes from beginner to elite, including multiple Team BC athletes.

She continues to train under Maria Dimitrova and works closely with Pam Ross (Team Canada Coach) and Vanessa Restrepo (BC Provincial Team Coach), ensuring athletes receive high-level instruction grounded in traditional karate values.
Jenna has coached at the BC Winter Games and has been selected as an Apprentice Coach for the 2027 Canada Games, reflecting her continued progression within high-performance coaching.

DTAC provides athletes with opportunities to train in kihon, kata, and kumite, compete locally on Vancouver Island, and progress to provincial and national levels. Most importantly, DTAC is a team and a family, where students grow into confident, disciplined individuals.

What Sets Us Apart

Our curriculum is grounded in the core disciplines of karate, including kihon (basics), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring). This is complemented by a strong emphasis on the principles, philosophy, and history of Shito-Ryu karate, alongside structured physical conditioning and athletic development.

From beginner to advanced to competitive teams, our programs are designed with a clear progression that allows each student to grow with purpose, confidence, and direction.

DTAC athletes benefit from direct access to provincial and national-level coaching, including:

  • Jenna Scott — Canadian National Team athlete (2025–2026), NCCP certified, 2027 Canada Games Apprentice Coach
  • Pam Ross — Team Canada Coach and High Performance Chair, Karate BC
  • Vanessa Restrepo — BC Provincial Team Coach and former Canadian National Team athlete

Students have opportunities to compete at local tournaments across Vancouver Island, with the ability to progress to provincial and national-level competition through a structured and supported pathway.

DTAC is more than a dojo, it is a team and a family. We foster an environment where students feel supported, build lasting friendships, and develop a strong sense of belonging while working toward shared goals.

DTAC has produced four Canadian National Team athletes across two seasons—Jenna Scott and Samuel MacLeod in 2025, and Gage Smith and Nash Smith in 2026. Our athletes compete locally on Vancouver Island and progress to provincial and national stages through a structured, supported development pathway that produces real results at the highest levels of Canadian karate.
